Banana Sushi for kids: the whole recipe

Let's roll up a banana like sushi and slice it into little wheels! This easy no-cook recipe is for ages 5 to 10 (grades K–4th), takes about 10 minutes and serves 2. Crumb, our tiny chef, reads every step aloud with a picture, so a child can follow along.

Ingredients

• 2 tortillas (or corn tortilla)
• 4 tablespoons peanut butter (or sunflower seed butter)
• 2 bananas

Tools

A cutting board, A butter knife, Measuring spoons, A plate.

Steps

1. Wash your hands with soap for twenty seconds.
2. Lay 2 tortillas flat on your board.
3. Spread 4 tablespoons of peanut butter all over with a butter knife.
4. Peel 2 bananas and lay one along the edge of each wrap.
5. Roll it up tight, like a sleeping bag.
6. Cut each roll into 8 slices with your butter knife: are they all the same size?
7. Stand your sushi on a plate, swirls up, and count the pieces!

Safety notes

• Spread peanut butter thin for little ones: a big lump can choke.

Kitchen science

Cut a roll into 8 equal pieces and each piece is one eighth of it: that's fractions!

Make it your own

• Sprinkle a little cinnamon on the spread before you roll.
• Add a line of strawberry slices next to the banana.
• Dip each piece in yogurt, like sushi in sauce.
