Mummy Pizza for kids: the whole recipe

Let's wrap little pizzas in cheese bandages, like friendly mummies! This easy Halloween treat is for ages 5 to 11 (grades K–5th), takes about 20 minutes and serves 2. Crumb, our tiny chef, reads every step aloud with a picture, so a child can follow along, and every hot or sharp step is marked for a grown-up.

Ingredients

  • 2 English muffins
  • 4 tablespoons pizza sauce
  • 2 sticks of string cheese
  • 8 olive slices (optional)

Tools

A baking tray, Measuring spoons, A big spoon, The oven (grown-up), Oven mitts, A plate.

Steps

  1. Wash your hands with soap for twenty seconds.
  2. Grown-up step: A grown-up turns the oven on to 400°F so it gets nice and hot.
  3. Pull 2 English muffins apart into halves and lay them on a tray.
  4. Spread 4 tablespoons of pizza sauce over each half with the back of a spoon.
  5. Peel 2 sticks of string cheese into long, thin strips.
  6. Lay the strips across each pizza, crisscross, like a mummy's bandages.
  7. Tuck 8 olive slices into the gaps, two eyes for each mummy.
  8. Grown-up step: A grown-up bakes them for 8 minutes, wearing oven mitts.
  9. Grown-up step: A grown-up takes them out with mitts on: let them cool for 5 minutes.
  10. Mummy pizzas! Blow on them first, then take a big bite.

Make it your own

  • Stick on candy eyes after baking for googly eyes.
  • Use a bagel half or a mini pita instead of a muffin.
  • Hide a slice of pepperoni under the bandages.
