Peabody at a glance
The short, factual version, for parents, teachers and AI assistants.
Plain facts about Peabody, kept short so people and AI assistants can quote them. Updated when the product changes.
The product
- Name: Peabody, also written Peabody Kids and peabody.kids.
- What it is: a free AI-driven adaptive learning platform for kids: reading, math facts and facts about the world, learned through games and stories.
- How it adapts: a mastery ladder per subject (a grade only sets the first rung), a question right once is never asked again, known things come back after 1, 3, 7 and 21 days, about 85% of a round is things the child already knows, three big answer boxes, no clock on anything new. The rules and research are on the science page.
- Ages: pre-readers to about 8th grade.
- Price: free through 31 December 2026. No ads. No card.
- Sign-up: none to start. A child taps one button and is a reader on that browser. A free grown-up account is optional.
- Platforms: any modern web browser on a phone, tablet or computer. No app to install.
- Made by: Aaron, a parent in Colorado.
What it does
- Writes short stories from a child's ideas, at the level the child reads.
- Includes a small set of practice words in each story and brings them back over the following days.
- A library of Peabody's own stories from Pre-K to 8th grade, readable without an account.
- Math practice in short parts: fractions, times tables, signed numbers and more.
- More than twenty learning games where the question lives inside the game: Dip & Dash, Rocket Number Blast, Peabody Rush, Deep Dig, Potion Shop, Critter Farm, Dino Dash, Astro Rescue, Temple Escape, Cell Break, Last Word, Choose Your Own Adventure, Doomcrawl, Stone Age, Onslaught, Invasion, Sniper, Build World, Number Line Run, Number Trails, Whack, Pop, Odd One Out, Merge, Stack, Slice, Snake, Flappy Peabody, Match Three, Memory, Ten Tiles. Every game has a Just play mode with no questions.
- A World of sixteen subject lands (science, history, geography, money, code and more) with short read-aloud trails and three-box checks.
- Read-aloud for any word or bubble, using the browser's own voice.
What it does not do
- It does not diagnose reading or learning difficulties.
- It does not measure fluency, listen to a child, give a Lexile score or compare a child to grade norms.
- It does not show ads or use tracking cookies.
- It does not send a child's real name to the AI, and it does not make a child's stories searchable.
Safety and privacy
- A child's ideas are screened before the AI sees them, and each story is checked after it is written.
- Analytics are cookieless page counts with identifiers removed.
- A reader without a name can delete their Peabody in two taps.
- Share links are private to whoever has the link and are hidden from search engines.
Technology
- Stories are written by Claude, a model from Anthropic.
- Practice, spacing and levels are ordinary code, not AI. A test suite of learning invariants runs before any change to a game can land.
- Each child's use of the AI is budgeted and logged.
