Peabody at school: a note for the district
One page for the people who run the school's filter. What to allow, how kids reach it, what Peabody keeps, and what is honestly not built for schools yet. Checked 18 Oct 2026.
What Peabody is
Peabody (peabody.kids) is a free reading and math site for children from Pre-K to 8th grade: stories at a child's own reading level, math inside real games, a library of open books, and no ads, no third-party tracking and no strangers' free text anywhere a child can see it. Free through 2026. The grown-ups' side is at peabody.kids/welcome; how it uses AI is on peabody.kids/ai-policy.
What to allow
Two hosts, and the WebSocket kind of connection (wss) to the second. Nothing else is needed for any part of Peabody, the mic included.
peabody.kidsPeabody itself: every page, picture, story, game and the voice files.
ejaphrdynzcrwnuszjno.supabase.coPeabody's data: sign-in, what a child read and played, and Who's here. It also needs the WebSocket kind of connection (wss), which most allow lists cover with the host.
How kids reach it
- Ask the district to allow peabody.kids and its one data host, the second of the two hosts on the school page, with the WebSocket kind of connection (wss) to the data host.
- Ask for a Clever or ClassLink tile that opens peabody.kids. It's a plain link; Peabody has no school sign-in yet.
- Where the school's filter darkens a category, Peabody's box says "At school this one is closed" and offers something else.
A tile is a plain link to peabody.kids. Peabody has no Clever or ClassLink sign-in: a child uses a reader their family made, or starts as a reader with no name at all (nothing is asked of them but a first name and a grade).
What Peabody keeps
A child's first name, their grade, their reading level, which stories they read and which questions they answered. No email, no photo, no voice (the mic turns sound into words on the device and keeps nothing), no location, no advertising identifiers. A family's grown-up can see and delete everything about their child from their own console. The full text is at peabody.kids/privacy.
Honest limits
- The school's filter follows the school login home, and a parent can only tighten it, never loosen it.
- A school account changes who consents under COPPA. Peabody's school route needs its own data answer before any district joins (class codes are designed, not built).
- The honest answer for a school Chromebook at home is: use the family tablet.
Where the school's filter darkens a category Peabody's box would land on, the box says "At school this one is closed" and offers something inside Peabody instead. Peabody never publishes a safety verdict about any outside site and never opens one for a child without a grown-up's yes.

Peabody can't lock a device. These settings do. Peabody's job is to be worth staying in.
