15 best tablets and devices for kids who learn
The right first device depends less on the brand than on the controls around it. This list covers kids' tablets, e-readers, and the kids' phones and watches that let a child call home without an open internet. Amazon's 2026 kids' tablets now run Google Play apps alongside Kids+, which adds choice and also Roblox and in-app purchases. Phones like Gabb and Bark limit what can be installed; watches like Gabb and Fitbit Ace skip the browser entirely. Whatever you pick, set up parental controls before the box is opened on the big day.
We chose devices with real parental controls and a learning use, checked prices and plans on maker pages in October 2026, and noted ongoing costs. Prices were checked on the makers' own sites in October 2026 and move often, especially around holiday sales. Checked 2026-10-24. Nobody paid to be here and nothing is an affiliate link.
