PRIVO is a US company that apps, games and toy makers hire to handle children's privacy. Parents usually meet it as the screen that asks them to prove they are an adult and approve a child's account, or as a 'PRIVO Certified' seal on a kids' app. Through PRIVO iD and my.PRIVO.com, parents can see and manage consent for several children across services. PRIVO also runs an FTC-approved COPPA Safe Harbor that audits member companies and takes complaints.
Our take: Parents can trust a PRIVO consent screen as legitimate; check your approvals at my.PRIVO.com now and then.

What's good
- One dashboard for a child's consents
- Complaint route for PRIVO-certified apps
- No ads or data sales by its own policy
- Lets you look up whether your child's data is in its system
Watch for
- Asks for sensitive ID details to verify adults
- A seal is a privacy audit, not a safety rating
- Easy to forget what you approved inside other apps
- Companies pay PRIVO, which also audits them
Data and privacy
To verify a parent, PRIVO may check a card number, partial Social Security number, driver's license or employer ID with third-party sources and says it does not store them. Its privacy policy says it does not sell or rent personal information, serve interest-based ads or build profiles. Read the privacy policy.
Does it work?
PRIVO is an FTC-approved COPPA Safe Harbor; no independent study of how well its consent checks work was found.
