A popular phone and tablet stargazing app. Hold the device up to the sky and it shows which stars, planets, constellations, satellites and comets are there, with 3D models, facts, music and event alerts such as meteor showers. A child can point, tap an object to learn about it, or scroll time forward. The free version shows ads; a subscription or in-app purchases remove ads and unlock extra content, including a kids' cartoon pack.

Our take: A fun way to get kids looking up; parents should buy the ad-free upgrade or turn off ad tracking for younger children.

What's good

  • Point-at-the-sky view is easy for kids
  • Rich facts and 3D models
  • Event alerts encourage going outside
  • Free version is usable

Watch for

  • Ads with cross-app tracking in the free version
  • Many in-app purchases and a subscription upsell
  • Privacy policy expects users to be 18 or have parent consent
  • Uses location and camera for AR

Data and privacy

Uses precise location only with consent, for the sky map. The app uses ad and analytics SDKs (Google AdMob, Unity Ads, AppLovin, Firebase) that collect advertising IDs; Apple's listing says identifiers and usage data may be used to track you across other companies' apps. Read the privacy policy.
