Free typing games for kids
Learn to type a few keys at a time, then play. A tutor teaches the keyboard in small steps, with a picture of the hands. After each lesson, an arcade game lets you practise at speed.
Four typing games
- Letter RainLetters fall from the sky. Zap each one before it lands.
- Star BlasterAlien ships carry letters. Type them to blast the fleet.
- Rock SmashTurn your ship and smash the asteroids by their letters.
- Key RaceType the words to speed down the track and beat your best.
Typing and reading go together
Typing and reading use the same letters, so a child who types a word once is practising the spelling as well as the keys. Peabody's typing tutor is free, and it sits next to thelibrary, where stories are sorted by reading level.
How it teaches
- A few keys at a time. The tutor starts with the home row and adds keys as the child gets them right.
- Hands on the screen. A picture shows which finger goes to which key.
- Then a game. Each lesson ends with an arcade game that uses the keys just learned.
Typing practice for kids, a little at a time
Good typing practice is short and often. Each Peabody lesson is one small step plus one game, so a child can practise for ten minutes and stop. Free typing lessons start at the home row, and the games get faster as the keys get easier. More free games: games for 6 year olds and the whole arcade.
Questions
Is Peabody's typing free?
Yes, free through the end of 2026.
What age is it for?
Kids who know their letters, from about 5 or 6. The tutor starts with a few keys and adds more as the child gets them right.
Does my child need an account?
Typing lives inside Peabody's kid side, so a child opens it after the one-step family sign-in. A child does not need an email address. The games on the other pages of Peabody need no sign-in at all.
Does it teach proper finger placement?
Yes. A picture of the hands on the keyboard shows which finger goes to which key.
