Pim and the Mitten: a free printable book

Print Pim and the Mitten as a little book to cut and staple, or as one page to read together. Every page has its picture, and the words are the ones in the story. Free, with no sign-up.

When your child gets stuck on a word

  1. Look for parts you know.
  2. Sound it out: say each sound, left to right, then say the word fast.
  3. Check it. Is it a real word? Does it make sense? Then check the picture.

If it is a word that cannot be sounded out, like the or said, just tell them the word and have them say it, then reread the sentence.

Print on 2 sheets of paper turned sideways (choose landscape in the print window). Cut along the dotted lines, put the little pages in order by their numbers, and staple them on the left.

Pim and the MittenMy name: ____________A free Peabody book
1

Pim was a little black crow.

His nest was up in a pine.

2

One day, the wind blew hard.

Pim had to flap and flap.

3

Then he saw a spot of red.

It was a mitten in the snow!

4

The mitten was lost.

Pim was little, but he was brave.

5

He took the mitten in his beak.

The mitten wiggled!

6

Pim let it drop.

Out popped a tiny mouse!

7

"Hey! I was in bed!" said the mouse.

"A mitten is not a bed," said Pim.

8

"A girl lost it. Her hand is cold."

The mouse gave a big yawn.

9

"Fine. I will ride," she said.

Pim flew low, with the mouse on top.

10

A girl stood by a gate.

Her hand was pink and cold.

11

Pim let the mitten drop.

"Thank you, brave bird!" said the girl.

12

She gave Pim some seeds.

The mouse ate half. Pim felt warm.
