The Stuck Kite: a free printable book

Print The Stuck Kite as a little book to cut and staple, or as one page to read together. Every page has its picture, and the words are the ones in the story. Free, with no sign-up.

When your child gets stuck on a word

  1. Look for parts you know.
  2. Sound it out: say each sound, left to right, then say the word fast.
  3. Check it. Is it a real word? Does it make sense? Then check the picture.

If it is a word that cannot be sounded out, like the or said, just tell them the word and have them say it, then reread the sentence.

Print on 2 sheets of paper turned sideways (choose landscape in the print window). Cut along the dotted lines, put the little pages in order by their numbers, and staple them on the left.

The Stuck KiteMy name: ____________A free Peabody book
1

Tess had a new red paper kite.

The hill was windy.

2

Up, up went the kite!

Its yellow tail went flip, flip.

3

Then the wind gave a big push.

The kite got stuck in a tree!

4

Tess gave the string a tug.

The kite did not come down.

5

She gave it a big tug.

It was still stuck on a twig.

6

Dad came over to look.

He jumped. He jumped again.

7

His hat blew off! It stuck in the tree, too.

"Now the tree has my hat," said Dad.

8

"It wants to go up," said Tess.

So she let the string go loose.

9

The wind lifted the kite off the twig.

Its tail hooked Dad's hat!

10

Up went kite and hat, like a bird.

"Bye, hat," said Dad.
