Free 1st grade math games and practice
Peabody's 1st grade math path has 30 short lesson parts in 4 skill areas, from "Adding to 20" to "Two-step stories". Ten right answers finish a part, and every part is open. Practice starts on adding, taking away and number sense. All free through the end of 2026.
| Skill area | Parts | Some of the parts |
|---|---|---|
| Whole numbers | 5 | Adding to 20, Taking away from 20 and Doubles |
| Shapes and geometry | 5 | What makes a shape, Find the shape and What do they make? |
| Number sense | 15 | Add three numbers, Add three, up to 20 and Is it true? |
| Measurement and data | 5 | Measure with unit squares, Put three in order and Hour and half hour |
On screen this path is called Level 3, so a child never has to think about which grade they are "supposed" to be in. A part is finished by ten right answers; a wrong one makes the next problem a little easier and never costs anything.
The lesson parts in 1st grade math
The first 24 of 30 parts, in the order Peabody lists them:
- Adding to 20: Quick sums, up to 20.
- Taking away from 20: Quick take-aways, from 20.
- Doubles: A number and the same number again.
- Make a ten: Make a ten to help.
- Back to ten: Take away, then get back to 10.
- What makes a shape: Sides and corners, not color
- Add three numbers: Look for a double
- Measure with unit squares: Read the ruler of same-size units
- Find the shape: Pick the shape with the attribute
- Add three, up to 20: Look for a ten
- Put three in order: Shortest to longest
- What do they make?: Join 2D and 3D shapes
- Is it true?: The equals sign means the same
- Hour and half hour: Match clocks, words and digital time
- Halves and fourths: Equal parts of circles and rectangles
- Missing number: 3 + ? = 8
- Tally charts: Count by fives and answer questions
- Half of a group: How many is half of 8?
- Missing number anywhere: ? − 4 = 2 and more
- Picture and bar graphs: How many more? How many in all?
- Fact families: Same three numbers
- Compare two-digit numbers: Greater than, less than, equal to
- Count by 2s, 5s, 10s: Up to 120
- Tens and ones blocks: Read the picture
…and 6 more parts in the full path.
What practice starts on
Beside the lessons, the practice brain brings facts back on a schedule. For a 1st grade child it works on adding facts, taking-away facts and number sense (skip counting, comparing, the number line, place value). The whole math ladder, lowest rung first, is counting, making ten, adding, taking away, number sense, times tables, division, big numbers, fractions, decimals and negatives and algebra; a child starts on the rung their grade puts them on and moves up when answers are solid, so a child who is ahead is not held back and a question answered right is done for good.

Questions parents ask
What does Peabody's 1st grade math cover?
30 lesson parts across whole numbers, shapes and geometry, number sense and measurement and data, from adding to 20 to two-step stories. They are short, they are made and marked by code, and they are not matched to state standards.
Does my child have to do the parts in order?
No. Every part is open. The first one not yet finished is marked "Up next" as a suggestion, so a child can go to whatever the class is doing this week.
Is it free?
Yes, free through the end of 2026, with no sign-up. Peabody has no written work, no standards report and no test, so it is practice, not a full curriculum.
