An online math program for grades 3-12 built around interactive textbooks aligned to US state standards. A student works each problem line by line; the software checks every step, gives hints, videos and worked examples when they get stuck, and recommends what to learn next after short skill check-ins. 'Milo', a chat tutor, helps explain problems. Schools buy classroom licenses, and families can open a free learner account.
Our take: A strong step-by-step math practice tool for grades 3-12, free at home; families should weigh the 2026 breach and keep account details minimal.

What's good
- Checks each step, not just the final answer
- Free accounts for families
- No ads to under-18s; chat data not used to train AI
Watch for
- A large 2026 data breach (Australia and New Zealand users)
- AI chat tutor can still make mistakes
- Best results depend on a teacher assigning work
Data and privacy
Mathspace says it never sells personal data and never advertises to users under 18; chat messages sent to Milo go to OpenAI under an agreement that bars training on them. In September 2026 it disclosed a breach of an internal reporting system that exposed names, emails, usernames and account details of 1,079,819 students, parents and staff in Australia and New Zealand; passwords and academic records were not exposed. Does it work?
The maker cites a study it calls independent of 94,000 students linking weekly use with a 53% higher chance of math proficiency (correlation, not cause). EdReports gave its high school series a full score for standards alignment.
