Outschool cooking classes

Outschool is a marketplace of live online classes taught by independent teachers, and its cooking section lists many kids' options: weekly group classes where children cook a full dinner on camera, self-paced teen courses, and one-on-one lessons. Teachers post ingredient lists ahead of time. Listings we saw ran from age 9 to 18, with group sizes of about 1-13. Quality, recipes and teaching style vary from teacher to teacher.

Our take: Good for tweens and teens who want a live, social cooking class from home; younger kids need a parent beside them, and families uneasy about recorded video should skip it.

The facts
Ages it suitsabout 9-18 for the cooking listings we saw (Outschool overall covers 3-18)
What its terms say about ageAccount holders must be old enough to sign a contract (18 in many places). Parents create learner profiles for children. Outschool's children's privacy notice says it collects data from under-13s after verified parental consent, and kids who sign up on their own get limited access while parents are alerted. (terms)
PricePaid. Each teacher sets the price (Oct 2026): weekly group cooking classes we saw were $15-$22 a class, self-paced courses $12-$21 a week, private lessons about $50 a session. New-family discount codes run often.

What's good

  • Live teacher and a small group of kids
  • Wide choice of times, styles and ages
  • Pay per class, no long contract

Watch for

  • Children appear on camera and classes are recorded
  • Teachers are independent; quality varies
  • A child at the stove at home with only an online teacher still needs an adult nearby
  • Costs add up week to week

Data and privacy

Classes run on video and are automatically recorded; recordings go to the teacher and are kept for 90 days. Chats and messages are recorded too. The children's notice says data is collected under COPPA with verified parental consent. Read the privacy policy.
