PlayStation 5 and PS Plus, Sony's subscription for online play and game libraries. Parents create a family, then a child account for each kid, and manage it from the console, the web or the PlayStation Family phone app. Controls cover games by age rating, chat and user-made content, privacy, daily play time, and a monthly spending limit taken from the parent's wallet. Preset levels match common age bands.

Our take: Families with a PlayStation should make child accounts and set a spending limit on day one.

  • Policy allows AI training on account data

Data and privacy

A parent gives only the child's name, email and birth date to create the account and controls chat and sharing of user content. Sony's policy says it may use personal data for personalized ads (subject to settings and consent) and to train AI and machine learning models, without a stated exception for children. Read the privacy policy.
