16 AI coding tools and AI-assisted coding for kids and teens
Two things are true at once in 2026. AI can now write a working app from a sentence, and kids who understand code still get far more out of it. So this list mixes two kinds of tools: ones that teach how AI works by having kids train and code models (great at 8-14), and AI coding assistants that teens can use once they can read the code it writes. Watch the age rules: most AI coding assistants are teen-only, and usage-based pricing can surprise you.
We picked tools with a clear learning path, honest age terms and a free way to start. Terms and prices checked in October 2026; they change. Checked 2026-10-24. Nobody paid to be here and nothing is an affiliate link.
