Music, podcasts, audiobooks and video streaming. Teens 13+ can have their own account with parental consent. For younger children, parents have two options: Spotify Kids, a separate app with editor-picked songs and stories that is included only with Premium Family, or a managed account in the main app with parental controls for explicit content, videos and specific artists, no in-app purchases and a profile others cannot search. Managed accounts can be on the free, ad-supported plan. Spotify Messages lets users chat and share music.

Our take: Easy to make safe for kids with a managed account or Spotify Kids; teens on regular accounts need the explicit filter on.

Data and privacy

Spotify's privacy policy (effective July 1, 2026) explains how it personalizes the service and uses data for tailored ads, which users can opt out of in settings. To create a managed account, a parent may verify with an ID photo and selfie through Yoti, which Spotify says deletes them after the check. Read the privacy policy.
