A long-running website where kids, families and classes write and illustrate their own storybooks online. Authors add text, uploaded pictures, props and characters they design, and record their own voice narration; several authors can work on one book. Making and sharing books online is free, and families can order printed hardcover or paperback copies. Finished books can go into a public library of books by other StoryJumper authors.
Our take: A good no-AI choice for kids who want to write and print their own books; check sharing settings before anything goes public.

What's good
- Child writes and illustrates the whole book
- Free online, with real printed books as an option
- Voice narration and group authoring
- Separate privacy rules for school accounts
Watch for
- Public library of books can show a child's work to strangers
- Printed books are the upsell
- Parent consent costs a $0.99 card charge or a printed slip
- Policies are spread over many pages, some dated 2019
Data and privacy
For under-13s it collects birth date, username, password and a parent's email, and contacts the child only after parent consent. It may share a child's personal information with third parties as permitted by law and its main privacy policy. Read the privacy policy.
