Minecraft (Java and Bedrock)

The regular home edition of the block-building game, not the school version. Kids explore endless worlds, gather materials and build anything, alone or with friends. Families use it for learning through redstone circuits (simple logic), Java mods and command blocks, and building challenges. Survival mode has mild cartoon combat. Bedrock Edition has a Marketplace of paid maps and skins, and Realms are paid private servers for playing with friends online.

Our take: Great for creative builders when a parent sets multiplayer and spending controls; families wanting structured lessons should look at Minecraft Education instead.
