My AI is a chatbot pinned inside Snapchat, where teens can chat with it, send it Snaps and voice notes, or @mention it in group chats. It answers trivia, gives advice and suggests plans. It runs on outside models, including OpenAI's GPT and Google's Gemini, with Snap's own safety layer. Parents enrolled in Snapchat's Family Center can see whether their teen has chatted with it and can switch it off, but cannot read the chats.
Our take: Not a learning tool; parents of teens on Snapchat should consider disabling it in Family Center.

| What its terms say about age | Snapchat is not for children under 13 (or a higher minimum age where you live); Snap may ask you to verify your age and deletes accounts it learns are underage. (terms) |

Data and privacy
Snap keeps everything sent to My AI until you delete it, and uses that content and your location (if shared) to improve its products and personalize your experience, including ads; it may share data with advertising partners. Parents in Family Center cannot see chat content. Read the privacy policy.
Does it work?
Common Sense Media (Aug 2024) rated My AI high risk, citing advice on sex and hiding alcohol given to accounts posing as minors, biased answers, and stored voice and image data used for ads. No newer independent review was found.
