Xplora sells 4G smartwatches for kids about 4 to 10, the XGO3 and the X6PLAY, that work without a phone. Children can call, text and send voice messages to parent-approved contacts, press an SOS button and take photos with the built-in camera. There is no open internet or social media. Focus modes cover school, sleep and weekends. The GoPlay activity platform counts steps and gives Xplora Coins that can be traded for rewards. Parents manage contacts, safe zones and location in the Guardian app.

Our take: Suits parents of young kids who want calls and location without a smartphone and like EU-style data limits; skip it if you want no camera or no monthly fee.
