Quizlet is a flashcard and study site used heavily in middle and high school. Students make or find card sets, then drill them with flashcards, a Learn mode, matching games and practice tests; teachers share sets with classes. Paid plans remove ads and unlock more practice tests, Learn rounds and textbook solutions. Children 13 and under get a restricted version with some features removed, and parents must consent to a child account.

Our take: A solid study tool for middle and high schoolers; pay for Plus or use school access to avoid ads.

What's good

  • Free tier covers the basics
  • Restricted mode for young children
  • COPPA Safe Harbor certified
  • Huge library of shared sets

Watch for

  • Ads and ad tracking on the free tier
  • Shared sets can contain errors
  • Yearly plans auto-renew
  • Textbook solutions can become answer-copying

Data and privacy

Quizlet lets third-party ad companies track users and builds audience profiles for interest-based ads, but says it does not use children's data to build profiles or target ads at them. It holds a PRIVO COPPA Safe Harbor certification. Read the privacy policy.

Does it work?

No independent study of Quizlet itself was found. Flashcard practice uses retrieval practice, a method with broad research support, but that is not evidence for this app.
