A kid-safe Samsung phone on AT&T's network with three plans that unlock features as a child is ready. Do gives calls, texts and GPS; Dream adds picture messages and group chats; Discover adds a curated app store and a smart browser limited to parent-approved websites, plus parent-controlled YouTube. There is no social media on any plan. Parents approve contacts, read texts, set schedules and see location history in the Parent Portal.

Our take: A fit for parents who want a smartphone that opens up slowly with no social media; teens who need a full browser may chafe.
